Qld: Mt Isa wants 7am pub opening scrapped

TOWNSVILLE, Feb 22 AAP - The north-west Queensland mining town of Mount Isa is urgingauthorities to scrap early morning opening hours for pubs.
The Liquor Licensing Division in 1993 gave several Mount Isa pubs permission to openas early as 7am to cater for miners coming off overnight shifts.
But community groups and the council want a return to 10am openings to reduce publicdrinking and homelessness.
Riverbed Action Group spokesman Father Mick Lowcick said reducing drinking time bya few hours would have a significant impact.
