Jdo: Young will compete despite the pain
ATHENS, Aug 14 AAP - Australian judoka Heath Young will compete with a local anaesthetic
tomorrow after straining a pectoral muscle this week.
Young (66kg) tore the muscle training last month but is determined to take part in
his first Olympics.
"There is a chance I could rupture my tendon which would mean I would have to have
surgery but at the moment, the way it is, I am looking at eight to ten weeks healing time,"
Young said today.
"With a pain killer I should be right and it gives me the opportunity to get out there
and go flat out.
"This is the Olympics."
Young, who is aiming to finish in the top ten, faces Bolivian Juan Jose Paz in the first round.
