According to Export Promotion Bureau statistics, July-August 2005 exports increased by 3.4% from the year before to US$1,753 million.
Exports of woven garments decreased by 9.2% to US$701 million, whereas those of knitwear jumped 19.6% to US$663 million. The elimination of quotas have rapidly increased exports to the EU and U.S.
Exports increased for jute goods, raw jute, leather, chemical products, ceramics, agricultural goods, oil byproducts, computer service, fabrics and handicrafts. Exports of jute goods increased by 13.7% to US$528.6 million.
On the other hand, exports decreased for frozen food, electronics, footwear, engineering products, tea, home textiles and bicycles.
