NSW: Fed govt must put Medicare plans on the table: Knowles
SYDNEY, Feb 11 AAP - The federal government must put its medicare plans on the tableto catch the free-fall of bulk-billing rates, NSW Health Minister Craig Knowles said today.
Mr Knowles today released an independent survey of 7,600 doctors which showed only22 per cent would continue to offer services at the minimum bulk-bill rate in the nextsix months.
"That's a devastating fall in bulk-billing services around this country," Mr Knowles said.
"It's been in free-fall month after month, of course in the country it's even worse."
In some regional areas of NSW less than four per cent of doctors continue to bulk-bill.
Mr Knowles said the current medicare fee of $22 had to increase to about $40 to coverrising costs.
